elina Posted May 17, 2006 at 01:14 AM Report Share Posted May 17, 2006 at 01:14 AM I’m a computer & internet idiot, sorry if this question is too stupid. If I’d like to sing a song, at the same time, with the music accompaniment from this site: http://www.wo99.com/ or maybe some other sites (do you know if there are other good sites for such purposes?), and then record and email the song to my friend. How can I manage to do that? Thanks for any suggestions in advance!
amandagmu Posted May 17, 2006 at 01:40 AM Report Share Posted May 17, 2006 at 01:40 AM If your computer doesn't have a built-in microphone (Apple laptops do, but most PC desktops do not) you'll first need to obtain one of those. To actually record on a mac I use Audio Hijack but if you're on a PC I think there are other options like Audacity (anyone know if TotalRecorder is still around and would help?). Then you can hook the mic up and record using the installed program. The ones I listed above are free to download. Amanda

elina Posted May 17, 2006 at 02:34 AM Author Report Share Posted May 17, 2006 at 02:34 AM Thanks for so quick answers! I use a PC desktop without a built-in microphone. I have not heard & used these Softwares: Audio Hijack, Audacity, TotalRecorder (yes, as I said, I’m an idiot about it ). Just now, I used Baidu to search Audio Hijack, and got some results which I need some time to digest. 我有一些问题不明白,但已经不明白到这种程度:连如何提问题都不知道怎么问了……
roddy Posted May 17, 2006 at 03:20 AM Report Share Posted May 17, 2006 at 03:20 AM The software that comes with windows will let you record .wav files, but they can be very big, so for emailing you'll probably want to record an mp3. If I needed to do this, I'd download Audacity (and the extra file for recording mp3's) and use that - then you can choose the 'export as mp3 option' once you've recorded yourself. Good luck. stephanhodges Posted May 17, 2006 at 04:24 PM Report Share Posted May 17, 2006 at 04:24 PM Kristal is even better than Audacity, being a 32 bit app, and having ASIO drivers, etc. It also has multi-track editing. And, it's also free for personal use. It is only for Windows platform, however, so it's not as good in that way. http://www.kreatives.org/kristal/ TotalRecorder is still alive and kicking. http://www.highcriteria.com/ Be sure you listen with headphonese while recording, so that you don't get the song track mixed with audio from speakers, etc. Also, try and sing with a full voice (not quiet), so that you can reduce the volumn before mixing. That will allow you to remove quite background noise from your microphone. Good luck

elina Posted June 23, 2006 at 11:45 AM Author Report Share Posted June 23, 2006 at 11:45 AM Another question: Are there some good and free websites where I can upload some songs there so that I can let some people hear them via internet? I know www.youtube.com is good, but it seems that only video files can be uploaded, excluding audio files like MP3, is that right? Or I misunderstand something? Thank you.
