What is chen2 dian4?

Can anybody help me? What is 沉澱 chen2dian4? I'm not having much luck with my dictionary and my housemate says it is too hard to explain.

Dictionary says sediment or precipitation, but a couple of Googled examples seem to indicate it might be something like calm down, ponder, contemplate?

也或者去星巴克，只要可以让我沉淀一下不用说话，安安静静 的翻翻书，即使两个小时也好，这样就够了。

让我沉淀一下,好做出一些重大的决定。

我感動到不能寫了，讓我沉澱一下才好好的回應吧！

Makes a certain amount of sense. I sometimes feel a need to sediment myself . . .

EDIT: found another figurative meaning of 'accumulate' - perhaps something like 'let me gather my thoughts', 'let me get myself together' in English?

Thanks a lot Roddy! Given the interview it was from, I'd say "let me get myself together" is probably spot on.
