Ian_Lee Posted February 10, 2004 at 08:22 PM Report Posted February 10, 2004 at 08:22 PM Guangzhou of 1923 was the most interesting place in China. All influential figures like Sun Yat Sen, Chiang Kai Shek, Wang Ching Wei, Mao Zedong, Zhou En Lai, Ho Chi Minh, Vo Nyugen Giap,.......etc all gathered there. But the most interesting figure should be the 39-yr old Russian Mikhail Borodin -- the Comintern Representative sent by Stalin to help reorganize loosely-formed KMT and CCP along Leninist structure. From 1925 (after Sun's death) to 1927 (before Chiang's great purge), Borodin was the most powerful man in South China. But rarely was his background revealed in Soviet and Chinese history. My History professor told me once that Mikhail had been a jewelry dealer (or smuggler) in South America before he was called back by Lenin to Russia. Quote
