Murry Posted May 24, 2006 at 06:20 AM Report Posted May 24, 2006 at 06:20 AM Hi folks. Can someone tell me where the "best" art schools are in China, in particular Beijing? Looking for modern and classical painting and ceramics. Any art students out there who can fill me in - thanks. Quote
niubi Posted May 24, 2006 at 04:01 PM Report Posted May 24, 2006 at 04:01 PM the two national schools are the central academy of fine arts in beijing and the china academy of art in hangzhou; these are considered to be the top two schools in china for art. the central academy of arts and crafts, also considered to be a top school, merged with qinghua university; i am not sure what the status of the merged program is at this point in terms of quality, no doubt it is good. most universities have an art department though they rarely are on par with the top schools. many provinces have a provincial art academy which is typically the top institution for art training within the province. the best of these is certainly the sichuan arts academy. badatpool Posted May 24, 2006 at 04:23 PM Report Posted May 24, 2006 at 04:23 PM In technical terms, Central Academy of Fine Art is probably a better choice for painting, with the Academy of Art & Design, Tsing Hua University (the former “Central Academy of Art & Design”) good for ceramics. Quote
Murry Posted May 25, 2006 at 07:27 AM Author Report Posted May 25, 2006 at 07:27 AM Hi Nuibi Badatpool, Thats a great help - thanks, the links were really helpful. By the way - is there such a thing as a "student" guild" at Chinese Universities? I would like to contact students directly at one of the Univerities you mentioned. Keep well. Quote
niubi Posted May 29, 2006 at 04:25 PM Report Posted May 29, 2006 at 04:25 PM i believe there are student associations at uni's in china, but i highly doubt they would be very good for obtaining objective or even marginally useful information about the schools aside from glowing, propagandistic statements about the programs. i have a similar question to the one raised initially in this thread (about art history programs), however because it is unrelated in that way, i will start a new thread.
