bhchao Posted May 31, 2006 at 08:12 PM Report Posted May 31, 2006 at 08:12 PM Seoul citizens just elected the youngest mayor in the city's history, Oh Se-hoon. Oh was not initially considered for his party's candidacy and was a longshot. But like Taipei mayor Ma's situation in 1998, the GNP had to find someone of high integrity with a clean record in order to beat the frontunner, just like how KMT persuaded Ma to return to public office and run for Taipei mayor against the incumbent Chen Shui-bian. KMT could not find a candidate with the charisma and credentials to beat Chen. So they turned to Ma, who wanted to retire from politics. GNP could not find a candidate with the integrity, intelligence, and charisma to beat the other party's clean candidate. So they turned to Oh, who also wanted to retire from politics. Of course Oh is not as good looking as Ma, but their clean and honest demeanors combined with their past credentials allowed them to make a comeback in politics. http://times.hankooki.com/lpage/nation/200605/kt2006053117483711990.htm Quote
