liuzhou Posted November 13, 2006 at 06:10 AM Report Posted November 13, 2006 at 06:10 AM have tied my toes into the crossed position to try and keep it that way. I did the same, but then I went for my siesta. Woke up and wondered why I couldn't walk and why I was lying on the bedroom floor. The wife screamed "drunk again!", I said "Are you?", she muttered something about going back to stay with mama, the dog tried to shag me, burglars broke in and decided we had nothing worth stealing. It hasn't been a good day! But Google is working! Quote
roddy Posted November 27, 2006 at 01:09 AM Author Report Posted November 27, 2006 at 01:09 AM Not been able to get Google.com all weekend - was hoping it would return for the working week, but it hasn't. Can someone confirm this is not just me, and then I can give up on the day and go back to bed . . . Quote
elina Posted November 27, 2006 at 01:57 AM Report Posted November 27, 2006 at 01:57 AM During weekend (just failed now and then, but most of the time without problem) and today, I can use www.google.com in Beijing through ADSL. Quote

gougou Posted November 27, 2006 at 05:40 AM Report Posted November 27, 2006 at 05:40 AM I was redirected to the Chinese language version for the first time today, yet still on the .com domain. No restrictions to search results, accordingly. Quote
roddy Posted November 27, 2006 at 08:54 AM Author Report Posted November 27, 2006 at 08:54 AM Mines back now. Turned off my router for a while, not sure if that helped at all - there was a three hour gap between me turning it off and waking up again. Annoying anyway, I wonder if there's anyway to download the Google index to my hard drive for situations like this. I've got about 280GB of storage all in, should be enough, yeah? Quote
liuzhou Posted November 27, 2006 at 09:01 AM Report Posted November 27, 2006 at 09:01 AM Should be enough. Don't forget to also make a backup. Quote

Battosai Posted May 28, 2008 at 03:14 PM Report Posted May 28, 2008 at 03:14 PM Google and gmail ok here in Shanghai but with Google Images it's often a hit and miss in the last two years Google Images seems to be partially blocked , sometimes it works perfectly ,sometimes only half of the images appear and sometimes nothing, anyone experiencing something similar? liuzhou Posted May 28, 2008 at 03:56 PM Report Posted May 28, 2008 at 03:56 PM Google is working fine. Google images has always been a bit moody. Hitting F5 to reload sometimes works. If the wind is in the right direction and the searching gods in a good mood. Making sacrifices the night before always helps. Quote
roddy Posted May 29, 2008 at 12:45 AM Author Report Posted May 29, 2008 at 12:45 AM I don't understand exactly how the problems with the image search arise, but I'm pretty sure it's because the page and the image filenames are including banned urls - when you have problems look where the images are sourced from and you'll likely find a blog site, the Chinese language version of wikipedia, human rights site, whatever. A quick fix is just to change the google.com in the url to google.cn - you don't get the exact same set of results, but you may find what you need. Quote

imron Posted June 16, 2009 at 12:17 PM Report Posted June 16, 2009 at 12:17 PM Google's DNS entries seems to be borked - even without the interference from the GFW. Accessing the site via IP works fine, accessing it by domain name results in epic fail across all subdomains. Quote
