OOOoops, I hope it's not too big a topic.

Just read through the thread by Randall about "Race in China", wanna say

something as a native Chinese. :)

First of all, comfort Randall for the things he met in Dalian, I believe Shanghai city

will be much much better since people saw foreigners more and got used to them

more there...

I have to admit the racial discrimination is obvious, especially to Blacks.

But I agree with other guys in this forum, -- it's mostly due to the ignorance.

Actually, discrimination is everywhere!!:(

I grew up in a little village, and went to middle school in a little town, and

went to college in a city. On my way stepping out the village, I felt discriminations

so many times. Here I would like to share some of my experience to you ...

When I was in the little town to study in a middle school, most of my classmates

were from that town. My "tongzhuo" (the classmate who needed to share the

same long stool with me) refused to sit with me in the same stool because I

was a "xiang xia ren" (red-neck) !!! Can you imagine that? But that's true! Later

on a lot of things happened between me and her (I am a female as well), and this

hurt me so much that it's always a nightmaire to me until I came US. (Currently

I am living in USA). After I saw the world I found being a "red-neck" was actually

nothing shameful. :)

A couple of years ago I wrote a novel according to my middle school experience,

which finally cured me from the nightmaire and now I can face the past calmly. :)

(If you guys like, I may post my novel here to share. hehe~~ *_^)

Anyway, my first post here, really a great place to see what's China alike in

foreigner's eyes.

I was born in Dalian, and now live in Belgium. Black friend Randell just happened to come up these unhappy things in Dalian, it doesn't mean that Dalian people are discriminating!

The Chinese people are always shy, and physically weak, especially compared with the black, self-protecting mind will always occur when they meet a much stronger foreigner!

And in Hollywood movies, many black people are violent, fighting-enjoyer! And most importantly, these movies are the only way they know a black guy. A northeast international city like Dalian, the foreigners are always Japanese and Korean, who are just the same like them, so somehow black people are more foreign than them! The Chinese people are not a nation who like to enjoy the fresh things they never met!

For Randell, if you can see, stay long, and make more friends, your society world will be larger and larger, it is quite famous even in Belgium called "guanxi"(关系), the Chinese don't like to contact with the guy they don't know a lot...It's just part of Chinese culture...

And we are not racists, in Belgium, a white young man just kill two person(one black from North Africa, the other from middle east), that's racist. You never heard a foreigner killed because of discrimination, did you?

The long you stay, the more you will find how kind the Chinese people are, some of them only kind to the one they believe worth to!
