you can use 强者生存, which literally means 'strong people survives'. but it sounds a bit strange.

I think the sentence "惟强者生" may be better .

But that's seems to be a useage of traditional language.

jayb55, do you mean the like of you and me will soon disappear!??

Anyway, below is one version of "only the strong survive":

生存的是强的

(PS: just noticed some people posted more flowery, better versions while I was typing, so I'd recommend either of them. Mine is ordinarily colloquial)

hey guys all i see is question marks....
That is because your computer can't display Chinese. It requires some language software and if your OS is XP, then you'll just need to turn the language cabability on.

Alternatively you could just get question marks tattooed onto your arm, and when people ask tell them it's an encoding problem.

Change your browser to view the Chinese characters. It's usually in the "View" menu under Character Coding or something similar. Most browsers now have that capability

Do yourself a favor, Jeremy, just tattoo "only the strong survive" in English instead. This will tell anyone who sees it that you are not one to fall victim to passing fads, that you know better than to get a tattoo in a language you do not understand. Also, if you go to Asia, a tattoo in English will be considered more cool.

And when you surf over to Hanzi Smatter later, you will feel it was the right thing to do.

Probably one should throw a look at the Chinese translation of Charles Darwin's evolution book and see what the translation of 'survival of the fittest' is in Chinese.

The Origin of Species (1872)

Chapter IV: Natural Selection; Or the Survival of the Fittest
