Crivens200 Posted June 11, 2006 at 12:48 PM Report Posted June 11, 2006 at 12:48 PM I wonder if anyone here knows of a bar called jin wan ba dian 今晚八点 next to the carrefour by the zoo? When I lived in Beijing a few years ago it used to be a great place to hang out as its clientele was almost 100% Chinese so really good for getting away from the expat scene and practising oral chinese. Thing is, I was in Beijing last week and decided to make a trip for old times sake and it appears to have been knocked down Does anyone know if they have opened elsewhere? Cheers Quote
venture160 Posted June 11, 2006 at 12:59 PM Report Posted June 11, 2006 at 12:59 PM I lived near the zoo for about 3 months this year and Ididn't see anything with that name, but I do know in that area there are a number of smallish bars with 100% chinese clientele, so there are other bars that you could find in the area with a simliar atmosphere Quote
roddy Posted June 11, 2006 at 01:01 PM Report Posted June 11, 2006 at 01:01 PM I remember there used to be a place in the location you're talking about when I lived near there, but that was maybe three years ago now - can't remember the name. But like Venture160 says, there are a few places around there - there's a PartyWorld (KTV place?) right at Baishiqiao, among others, and if you walk north up to and around Minda I think you'll find more. venture160 Posted June 11, 2006 at 01:18 PM Report Posted June 11, 2006 at 01:18 PM there are a few bars right next to the zoo, one called SeaSail, there is also a very Chinese disco called BaBaLu, its all chinese dancing to techno-pop, it makes you feel like you are in some backwater provincial city.(which I should admit I miss sometimes) There is also a very small bar across from the XinDaDU Fandian just around the street. there is also one of the best Xinjiang rest. there in all of Beijing, the Xinjiang gov compound is near there, and in the Xinjiang Hotel they have an awesome rest. gato Posted June 11, 2006 at 01:20 PM Report Posted June 11, 2006 at 01:20 PM Yes, the Eight O'Clock was on the other side of Carrefour from Seasail and other place. I've never been inside, though. Quote
