tarur Posted June 13, 2006 at 06:50 AM Report Posted June 13, 2006 at 06:50 AM Hi you who have taken short courses during summer in BLCU, I'm going for a 4 week short course in July and would like to use the short period as efficiently as possible. Are there Chinese students at the campus during summer? If yes, is it easy to get someone to give you conversation practice. Is it expensive? Quote
redpixel Posted June 13, 2006 at 09:10 AM Report Posted June 13, 2006 at 09:10 AM Standard price for a "tutor" (usually a person currently studying or recently having graduated from the "Teaching Chinese as a foreign language" program) is 20-25 RMB/hour. You can also get a language partner for free, provided that you teach him/her some English in exchange. I don't think you'll have any difficulties finding either in July, just check the bulletin boards in the school cafes. Quote

PeterMUC Posted June 22, 2006 at 06:23 AM Report Posted June 22, 2006 at 06:23 AM Hi, I am also interested in having a tutor for approx. 3 weeks. I am confused about the hourly rate. While most people in this forum are saying a tutor will be around 50-100 RMB/hour, you are saying its only 20-25. Is this the price students charge, that have not graduated yet and 50-100 RMB is the price for graduated language teachers? If so, is there some place on the internet where I can get into contact with a tutor? Thanks! Quote
yonitabonita Posted June 22, 2006 at 10:08 AM Report Posted June 22, 2006 at 10:08 AM You're spot on. 20-25 for students, and 50-100 for teachers. If you pop into the cafe next to the Friendship Store at the BLCU, you'll find a huge notice board with ads for tutors and students. You'll be bound to find something there. Regular practice is that you get the first half hour or hour free to try out the teacher. I think a good approach is to try out several to get a feel for different styles. Good luck. Y Quote
