Problem of china? Maybe i am wrong..

My mom and dad, tell me not to go to china, and I want to visit there.. but they refer to the Teniment Square incidant, and say youre not allowed to do anything in china unless you have permission because of the Communism Government..

Can someone clear up doubts of China?

Or help me understand if its good or not?

Thank you

Your parents are trying to protect you from things which might hurt you, and they obviously believe that China is the big bad wolf, so you might run into problems here. Fortunately, our experiences make us wiser and foreign travel expands our thinking and makes us a more balanced individual. My advice is to go for it - it will change your life forever and make you a more confident, mature, and interesting person. It has certainly done all that for me anyway. Good luck.

You don't need to worry about whether your parents are right or wrong.

You will be safe in China (as safe as any other country, anyway). Go, form your own opinion, and then have a chat about it with your family once you return.

Maybe your parents' knowing of China is between last 60s and 70s. Over those days, the peoples' activity maybe so limited by the government of China, but it changed a lot since last 80s.

Today, you can do anything if you want, of course it must be within the law. As a resident of China, I think our country is one of the best in the world, and I hope you can prove my idea by travelling in China, you will consider that you make a happiest time in your life during in my country.

i agree travelling china is great and that it is in general very safe possibly more so than many western cities. and i like that Ben is very welcoming of people to his country.

but i could go on for a very long time as to why you shouldnt make those assumptions about chinas fre*dom and how it compares to other countries.

i am generally a supporter of china.. but not a blind supporter

Thank you Ben, That was very kind of you to say. I plan on taking a trip to Cheng Du next year actually.

Any suggestions on where to go/what to do?

dynaemu, this is a college dorm in China:

Notice the guy in the back is playing Counter Strike... such things could never happen in the China your parents described. Welcome to the 21st century.

What are you looking for in China though? Our members can give you better suggestions if we know why you want to go to China and what you would like to see/experience there.
