yonitabonita Posted June 14, 2006 at 03:41 PM Report Posted June 14, 2006 at 03:41 PM Hello everyone, Apologies if this is in the wrong section - it's about computers but not really about computing with Chinese (inputing hanze etc). Does anyone have a good experience with any internet provider? We need a hook up and a wireless router in our place. We live in a new building which is wired up so I guess all we need is a service provider to hook up to. I've never actually had one before so I am not completey sure what to look for. Just fast and hassle free (as much as can be here anyway). Any advice would be great! Thanks in advance Y Quote

roddy Posted June 15, 2006 at 06:33 PM Report Posted June 15, 2006 at 06:33 PM How do you mean 'wired up'? Basically, almost everyone I know is with China Netcom, which runs the fixed line phone network. To get ADSL activated you need to go along to one of their 营业厅 and request broadband set-up, which basically consists of getting a username and password and someone to come round and set up the broadband modem. However, all you really need is the username and password, setting up the modem is very simple. Only potential hassle is that initial activation will need the landlord (or whoever's name is on the phone bill) If you then want wireless, you need to buy a wireless router which plugs into the modem. There's a small chance you may have some other option - some buildings have deals with other providers such as Great Wall, in which case I'd guess you need to speak with building management. Quote
