National Chengchi Uni vs. National Taiwan Normal Uni

Anyone here with knowledge about these Mandarin language learning programs? Specifically, teachers and location. I reviewed both websites and superficially they seem to offer the same. However, I am interested in the intangibles that hopefully prior students can shed some light on for me.

Thanks, z

There's a lot of people studying in Taiwan at www.forumosa.com in the Learning Chinese section, so while there's probably people here that can answer your question I would definitely post it there as well. I know plenty of people there have posted on the normal university, a search on Chengchi turned up fewer results, so go ahead and post your question.

I figured I was obligated to answer this post considering I have studied at both these places.

I would not go to NTNU, there are too many foreigners around there and the school does nothing to promote a good Chinese learning environment. You also get a lot of Taiwanese looking for English practice hanging around there as well. I find that whole area of Taipei quite anoying actually.

The Campus at Chengchi is better and the teachers seem to care slightly more on the whole (obviously there are good and bad teachers at both). Most people prefer NTNU's location as it's more central but as a student who just spends most of his days on campus I don't feel the need to be in the city center.

I don't know if Chengchi is neccessarily the best place in Taiwan to learn Chinese but I do know it's better than NTNU. If you have any further questions you can email me at mpallard (AT) hotmail.com.
