xmarcus Posted June 18, 2006 at 03:04 PM Report Share Posted June 18, 2006 at 03:04 PM Hello, does anyone know of a tool that will add annotation to Microsoft Word files? The closest idea I can come up with would be to save the Word file as a Rich Text Format file and use a tool like DimSum to annotate the file. Thanks

md1101 Posted June 19, 2006 at 07:04 AM Report Share Posted June 19, 2006 at 07:04 AM and if you have wenlin you can open the document with that... or copy and paste it into a wenlin file. then you just put the mouse over the words like adsotrans and you see the meaning at the bottom of the screen. wenlin rocks. chinesetools Posted June 19, 2006 at 05:31 PM Report Share Posted June 19, 2006 at 05:31 PM Neither Adsotrans or Wenlin will keep the formatting from the Word document though if you copy/paste the text. Another option might be to save the document from Word as an HTML file, put it on-line, and then use one of the on-line annotators that work with webpages such as Rikai.com, Adsotrans.com (or DimSum) to annotate the file and then save it and load it back into Word. atitarev Posted June 20, 2006 at 12:04 AM Report Share Posted June 20, 2006 at 12:04 AM Try Wakan as well, it's absolutely free, gives annotation, stroke orders (not animated but numbered strokes) This tool can be used for Chinese and Japanese. You can annotate the whole text with a click of a button - pronunciation + translation. May need some manual tweaking. One issue - when you copy the annotated text from Wakan into, say Word, the transcription goes into brackets. http://wakan.manga.cz/ The screenshots are for Japanese but Chinese works the same way, only pronunciation is given in pinyin.
