gougou Posted June 22, 2006 at 03:49 AM Report Posted June 22, 2006 at 03:49 AM I'm looking for a library in Beijing carrying international titles. Emphasis is not so much on books as on regular publications like journals and magazines (writing my graduation assignment at the moment, would be nice to have something to quote.) Anybody know whether that exists? Quote
gato Posted June 22, 2006 at 04:00 AM Report Posted June 22, 2006 at 04:00 AM The National Libarary near the Beijing Zoo has lots of English language books. The problem is that foreigners can only browse the new books (probably from the last five years or so) in the reading room and cannot check out the older books in the storage area. Chinese citizens can check out up to 4 books at a time (I believe) after paying a 1000 yuan deposit. So far as new titles are concerned, their selection is pretty good. Most of the books are academic in nature. Quote
doumeizhen Posted June 22, 2006 at 11:34 PM Report Posted June 22, 2006 at 11:34 PM Depending on what topic you are writing on, it might be worth it to sign up for something like questia, contacting jstor (if you are overseas and are part of an American Uni, you might have online access to this). I did this for some research, and shared it with my friend who studies polititcal science and couldn't get certain material in China. Quote
