geek_frappa Posted June 30, 2006 at 10:36 PM Report Share Posted June 30, 2006 at 10:36 PM This is not an English-Chinese Dictionary tool, actually... it's something else, and I don't know what to call it yet... http://www.corgilabs.com/ is appreciated. yingguoguy Posted July 1, 2006 at 03:29 AM Report Share Posted July 1, 2006 at 03:29 AM Looks very promising, and I like the layout of the results. Very clean and easy to read. Only played with it a little but a couple of things immedately: 1. Syllables need to be seperated with a space. Hence 'ying guo' works, but 'yingguo' doesn't. 2. (Actually scratch 2, if I get the tones right it actually works) 3. Dictionary seems a little spotty. Entering 猫 finds 熊猫 but not 猫. Searching on 咖 finds 星巴克咖啡 Starbucks Coffee but not 咖啡 coffee! skylee Posted July 26, 2006 at 11:47 PM Report Share Posted July 26, 2006 at 11:47 PM The Giant Flashcards are not reliable -> 请椒 (qǐng jiāo / green pepper) ??? (Shouldn't it be 青 qīng?) 白萝卜 (bái luó bǔ / turnip) ??? (I think it is bo) 蚕豆 (tiǎn dòu / kidney beans) !!! (蚕 is cán, right?) Unacceptable IMHO ... geek_frappa Posted July 27, 2006 at 01:01 AM Author Report Share Posted July 27, 2006 at 01:01 AM thanks, skylee yes! many are very wrong ... these are machine-entered. no human editing,,, this is an experiment. i'm writing a character recognition plugin and a hanzi to pinyin converter... i agree. this is terrible... johnd Posted July 27, 2006 at 01:25 AM Report Share Posted July 27, 2006 at 01:25 AM Am I wrong in thinking that the photo on the front page shows four girls wearing Japanese dress?
geek_frappa Posted July 27, 2006 at 02:20 AM Author Report Share Posted July 27, 2006 at 02:20 AM Am I wrong in thinking that the photo on the front page shows four girls wearing Japanese dress? john :o) yes? don't you just love that photo? i do. 请椒 (qǐng jiāo / green pepper) ??? (Shouldn't it be 青 qīng?)白萝卜 (bái luó bǔ / turnip) ??? (I think it is bo) 蚕豆 (tiǎn dòu / kidney beans) !!! (蚕 is cán, right?) Unacceptable IMHO ... skylee, these entries have an average score of 12% from editor approval. ;-) i've reset the bar for available flashcards at 90% (which means only time words and colors will pass)... http://www.corgilabs.com/flashcards/ i'll be more careful about this in the future. i was thinking about writing a program where editors can login to their accounts and build their own vocabularies while scoring each entry. will people do this for free? or do i need to bribe them? zarathustra Posted July 29, 2006 at 10:44 AM Report Share Posted July 29, 2006 at 10:44 AM I heard about it a few days ago and really like it. I love being able to input numbers and dates. It seems short format dates don't work. 2006/07/30. The thing I would like most is for the characters to use a font. They're currently pictures. geek_frappa Posted September 29, 2006 at 03:51 PM Author Report Share Posted September 29, 2006 at 03:51 PM 请椒 (qǐng jiāo / green pepper) ??? (Shouldn't it be 青 qīng?)白萝卜 (bái luó bǔ / turnip) ??? (I think it is bo) 蚕豆 (tiǎn dòu / kidney beans) !!! (蚕 is cán, right?) Unacceptable IMHO ... Thank you again, Skylee. Try the flashcards again http://www.corgilabs.com/flashcards/ something to note... all the errors before were done by native Chinese speakers. it still fascinates me that every discussion of pinyin teaches me something new. the speakers were 97% confident about their pinyin tone marks. i still have much to learn about how native speakers grasp pinyin. i have now used a more "standard" variation of different romanizations... enjoy.
