tarur Posted July 3, 2006 at 07:56 AM Report Posted July 3, 2006 at 07:56 AM I've planned to take an airport shuttle bus route #5 to XueYuanQiao when I arrive Beijing. Looking at a map it looks like XueYuanQiao is very close to BLCU south gate. I know that maps are not always exact and my question is, how far is it actually from XueYuanQiao to BLCU. 500 meters? 1 kilometer? Do I need a taxi? I am used to walk and I don't have a huge luggage. And I know that taxis are very cheap Quote
etcetera24 Posted July 3, 2006 at 09:27 AM Report Posted July 3, 2006 at 09:27 AM IWalking from 学院乔 to the BLCU's East Gate (along 学院路) takes about 20 minutes... add an extra 5 minutes to get to South Gate. I'm horrible at judging distances so I can't tell you how much ground you're actually covering. A taxi will be easier if you have luggage - it will certainly be much faster, 5 minutes at most and costs 10 kuai. Quote

xus-swede Posted July 12, 2006 at 08:30 PM Report Posted July 12, 2006 at 08:30 PM I have a question. Since I don't speak chinese at all I've come to the conclusion that the only way to get the taxidriver to drive me where I want to go is to show him the adress in writing. I can't think of another way, can you? Quote
karmakid Posted July 17, 2006 at 09:06 AM Report Posted July 17, 2006 at 09:06 AM Xus-swede that wont be a problem. I arrived in beijing not knowing a single word of chinese and made my way to BLCU. I had the adress on a piece of paper, but make sure u have haidian<-district wudaokou<- part of district written up aswell, cause the taxidrivers dont usually know all the streets in beijing. And yeah make sure u go with a REAL cab, since I and alot of ppl I know were ripped of by black cabs first time i went. A cab i s usually ~80kuai to BLCU. Real cabs are colored, green/yellow or some reddish/yellow. I'm probably arriving myself quite late cause I'm planning to go to Bangkok and then on foot to Beijing. Vi ses där! /svante Quote

Zhende ma? Posted July 18, 2006 at 02:57 AM Report Posted July 18, 2006 at 02:57 AM Yeah karmakid is right, the black cabs will grab you in a second. They will approach you in the baggage claim, in my case the airport information desk guy (couldn't have been older than 20) actually directed me to him when I asked for a cab in Chinese (kickback?) luckily I had been warned and I walked outside though he kept hounding me. There I saw plenty of red legit cabs and got a cheap ride over. Don't get taken! Quote
gougou Posted July 18, 2006 at 03:41 AM Report Posted July 18, 2006 at 03:41 AM Real cabs are colored, green/yellow or some reddish/yellow.While most official cabs are green/yellow or purple/yellow, you will also see quite a few red ones (older cars) and a few black ones, all of which are official. When people warn you against the black cabs, they usually mean the unregistered cabs (black as in black market), which can be cheaper than the official ones when you know your prices, but will mostly result in rip-off for a foreigner who just arrived in Beijing. The black-colored cabs are just as good as their more colorful counterparts and, since the prices have been raised to RMB 2, also cost the same. Quote
