tlevine Posted July 11, 2006 at 04:46 PM Report Posted July 11, 2006 at 04:46 PM Do you know of any chess clubs in Beijing? Quote
roddy Posted July 11, 2006 at 05:00 PM Report Posted July 11, 2006 at 05:00 PM TimeOut lists a Beijing Amateur Chess Club meeting at 8pm every Wednesday at Zishuyuan Restaurant (紫什苑), 139 Gulou Dongdajie (鼓楼东大街). Phone number is 8400 2215, though it doesn't say if that's the restaurant or an organiser. Quote
tlevine Posted July 26, 2006 at 01:11 PM Author Report Posted July 26, 2006 at 01:11 PM It's also listed in That's Beijing. I called the phone number listed and sent an email to the email address listed but didn't get anyone, so I just went. And I just got back. It hasn't met for the last few weeks, and it didn't meet this week. When it did meet, it only had about six people. I also found the Jinhong (金宏) and Aigo (爱国) chess clubs online. I'll check them out too. Quote
roddy Posted July 26, 2006 at 01:43 PM Report Posted July 26, 2006 at 01:43 PM Good luck, let us know if you find an active one. Do you play Chinese Chess at all? I actually prefer it to international chess now, although I rarely play either any more. Roddy Quote
Shadowdh Posted July 26, 2006 at 02:15 PM Report Posted July 26, 2006 at 02:15 PM On that note Roddy, I would mind learning to play Chinese chess and that other game with the black and white stones... oh and while I am at it... Mahzhong... of course these could all be related but I have spent some time watching groups in various parks play any one of these and they all look interesting... Quote
tlevine Posted July 27, 2006 at 01:25 PM Author Report Posted July 27, 2006 at 01:25 PM I just started learning Chinese chess strategy about two weeks ago. I watch people when they play in the streets, but I couldn't beat a Chinese person who wasn't very good. (I did surprise him, however, when I told him that I had only been playing for two weeks.) That was actually the first game of Chinese chess that I had played for more than a few moves. The game with the black and white things is a Japanese game called "Go" (围棋). Quote
Shadowdh Posted July 27, 2006 at 02:42 PM Report Posted July 27, 2006 at 02:42 PM Thanks for the info re Go... Quote
