Ian_Lee Posted March 29, 2004 at 07:42 PM Author Report Posted March 29, 2004 at 07:42 PM It seems no poster is from the Chaozhou area. 打冷 refers to the midnight snack that is quite prevalent in Hong Kong. 打冷 is a Chaozhou word which meaning most people in HK don’t know. But in 打冷 eatery, there are dozens of food item that you can choose from like marinated goose, pig blood with chives, salty vegetable with fish, marinated tofu,…..etc., which you eat with congee. In fact, Taiwan has the same kind of eateries (probably due to the proximity of southern Fujian and Chaozhou). The only difference is that there is sweet potato in Taiwan’s congee while Chaozhou’s does not. Some of the famous Taiwanese dishes for congee are duck’s tongue and Tofu-Thousand Year Egg-shredded pork. In Hacienda Height, there are some Taiwanese style shopping malls. Some of the eateries inside serve this kind of food way past midnite. Quote
