byaxin Posted July 26, 2006 at 05:19 PM Report Posted July 26, 2006 at 05:19 PM Hi everyone, I'm moving to Beijing on august to study Chinese for one year at the Beijing International Studies University. As I'm used to the Internet, a broadband connection is vital to me. I would like to know whether it's possible for me to have an Internet connection in my dorm room? Does the university administration allow this? In that case, please tell me about any choices I have concerning the provider, the hardware...etc. Thank you very much.(sh) Quote
boomerang Posted July 27, 2006 at 11:18 AM Report Posted July 27, 2006 at 11:18 AM I can't speak for BISU, but here at Capital Normal University, an internet connection is provided to every dorm room (at least the building I am in). You run through their proxy, which means you have to log in every time you want to use it. It is no where near as fast as what I am used to in America, but not too bad. I'd imagine the situation would be similar at your school. Internet provided by the university, a decent speed, occasional hiccups. Anyone with experience at BISU? Quote
Qcash3 Posted July 27, 2006 at 06:52 PM Report Posted July 27, 2006 at 06:52 PM I am not familar with BISU, but I am going to Tsinghua for a year and they have internet in all the dorm rooms. I would assume that it is the same there as well. If not there are numerous internet cafe's in Beijing, and I would bet that BISU has some sort of computer lab on the campus. Quote
jinjin Posted August 11, 2006 at 04:38 AM Report Posted August 11, 2006 at 04:38 AM hi, the shao yuan dorms at PKU all have internet access... Quote
Erikssc Posted August 21, 2006 at 09:45 AM Report Posted August 21, 2006 at 09:45 AM I studied at BISU from 2003 to 2005 and yes they have internet broadband available in the dorm rooms. No problem. You have to tell the people in the reception that you want internet in you room and they will get someone to install it for you. You plug the cable directly into your network card on your computer (Ethernet, I think). Have fun at BISU! I really miss it! Quote
