As title, really. I think 受控热核堆 might be a Tokamak reactor (mainly by process of elimination, I seem to have translations for all other types of reactors  ), but was wondering if anyone could confirm.

Edit: this seems to confirm it.

Yeah, I'd come across that page - the article I'm dealing with is very similar. The translation is useful, as it leads to Wikipedia which gives the Tokamak as the most viable method of controlling the controlled thermonuclear fusion (CTF). I think I'll use CTF to be on the safe side, but effectively they appear to be interchangeable - tokamak is the only currently viable form of CTF. Thanks!

EDIT: No, I'll use CTF because that's actually right . . .

Wow I've never gotten myself into technical translation, I've only been doing legal and business minded stuff. Briefs, evaluations, contracts etc. I'd like to get into it though, if anyone know's of a place in Beijing that is hiring, I'd love to get some part time work.

It's not actually a very technical piece, as it's written for a general audience. It just has some technical vocabulary in it.

Genuine technical translation isn't much fun and I wouldn't recommend anyone goes looking for it unless they actually have a background in the field. The worst one I've done so far was legal documents for a patent dispute - basically, very detailed descriptions of how two different machines (or were they different! HA!?) handled the task of moving a piece of film or something from a feeder tray to . . . . well, to somewhere else - and it was all written by lawyers. I actually stopped taking that guy's work once I figured out he was giving me stuff no other translator would take on at the same price - I did that one for him, and a bunch of ancient planning documents from Shanghai, and then he sent me a bunch of scans of illegible medical notes, in traditional Chinese, and I finally got wise . . .

My search actually lead to the same page as Roddy's. I guess if they were specifying Tokamak they could actually just say 托卡马克 though, right?
