Damasus Posted August 2, 2006 at 11:43 PM Report Posted August 2, 2006 at 11:43 PM I am Austrian and have a very good Chinese friend, but I got into a terrible conflict with him when purchasing an inner-China flight ticket online and let it deliver to his home. I asked him before if it was OK for him to let it sent to his home and he was fine with it. However, he became completely angry when I told him I did the booking online and submitted his address with it. He said that this was very dangerous for him to set his address online even for this ticket purchase and that he was very angry because of that and want to quit friendship. We were really good friends for nearly 1,5 years now, so I completely don't understand this issue. I mean we were chatting together on the net and there even political topics were OK, but now he gets crazy because I set his address into the booking system of elong instead of ordering the tickets via phone. Can anybody help me and explain this reaction. I totally don't understand, why submitting a home address from a chinese person on the web is dangerous for this person (except of course in context with political topics)? So any explanation or help how to find a good excuse for my friend would be great! Thanks in advance! Quote
greensunday Posted August 3, 2006 at 07:19 AM Report Posted August 3, 2006 at 07:19 AM it is ok! don't worry maybe he was afraid of personal imformation leaking out, e.g. the air-company sell his personal imformation to others To most chinese people, it really did not matter. mayge he had met with some trouble on such situation? so try to communicate with him. Sashawang Posted August 3, 2006 at 09:19 AM Report Posted August 3, 2006 at 09:19 AM Nach Meiner Menung ist das nicht unhöflich. ich frage meinen Freund nach dem Problem, er sagt ok. i think, he is angry, 'cause he maybe feels unsafe and he is afraid that some one will have bad intentions on his family after knowing his address. make a frank explanation to your friend. anyway, friendship is more important. Qcash3 Posted August 3, 2006 at 02:44 PM Report Posted August 3, 2006 at 02:44 PM Perhaps he feels that you violated his privacy, which is especially strange considering what "privacy" means in China . I would just try to explain to him that you were acting with completely good intentions, and that it is pretty safe to submit your address via internet for things like airline tickets. As long as an axe murderer doesn't show up at his home, there really shouldn't be any problem. Quote
