Quest Posted February 25, 2004 at 02:22 PM Report Posted February 25, 2004 at 02:22 PM Those of you who watch TVB dramas, have you ever been agitated by TVB's Chinese subtitles? I do not have examples with me right now, but one word I do remember -- 甭-- has been repeatedly and excessively mis-used in all of TVB's recent dramas. Whenever someone says "唔使谂喇" you will see "你甭想了" in the subtitles. 甭 and 不用 are similar, but they are not the same. Quote
hparade Posted April 2, 2004 at 01:13 AM Report Posted April 2, 2004 at 01:13 AM TVB dramas suck, over and over again, boring and dull, and yet still dominate the TV market, what's wrong with HK people Quote
geek_frappa Posted April 2, 2004 at 03:45 AM Report Posted April 2, 2004 at 03:45 AM i know. i bought one to see what they hype was about. i thought i was going to die on my bedroom floor from boredom. has hong kong really gotten that boring now? Quote
sunyata Posted April 7, 2004 at 04:31 AM Report Posted April 7, 2004 at 04:31 AM I've followed TVB drama from when I was 7 til now (20). Unfortunatley, they are becoming worst and worst. Now a days, most of the stories are poorly written, actors/actresses can't act, and TVB is getting lazy about costumnes. My parents lost interest in hong kong drama early on, but I kept to them until I realize most of the plots are repetitive. I've turn my attention to Taiwan and China drama series instead. Quote
skylee Posted April 23, 2004 at 01:35 PM Report Posted April 23, 2004 at 01:35 PM I have just seen this on TVB - does "捲逃" (subtitle) mean "走路" (Cantonese dialogue)? Is "捲逃" a short form of "捲舖逃走"? Quote
tetsuo500 Posted April 26, 2004 at 03:28 PM Report Posted April 26, 2004 at 03:28 PM It seems to me that most of the subtitles that come out of HK are in WHITE text. I'm not targetting HK movie makers in particular (yeah right!) but white is fine to read when the background is constantly black, or other dark colours, such as navy blue or perhaps deep reds. But in something where background colours are constantly changing, often to shades of yellow or white - let's say.... I don't know..... like in a MOVIE, white subtitles do not work! This is something that really gets to me. How long can it take them to realise the subtitles are unreadable, or hard to read most of the time. I could understand if the subtitles were just in English and it wasn't subtitled for one of their main markets, but the movies with white subtitles always have simplified Chinese too. And it's so easy to fix. In Australia, we have a channel called SBS which shows all its non-English language movies with subtitles that are yellow, with a black border around the letters. Not only are they non-intrusive to the movie, but you can always read them clearly 100% of the time. I guess I could send some of the companies an e-mail about it, but it's much more fun to complain about it on an online forum. [/rant over] Quote
skylee Posted September 4, 2004 at 03:10 PM Report Posted September 4, 2004 at 03:10 PM This is not about subtitles. TVB is showing a series called 金枝慾孽, and I am quite fascinated by the script and the acting. Here are some pictures (with subtitles hee hee). Quote
Quest Posted September 4, 2004 at 03:15 PM Author Report Posted September 4, 2004 at 03:15 PM I just finished episode 10 last night. Another good series after 栋督神探。 Quote
skylee Posted September 5, 2004 at 12:45 AM Report Posted September 5, 2004 at 12:45 AM Sigh. Episode 10 was broadcast in HK on 3 September. And you in 美国嘅某个城市 has watched it already. Although there was time difference ... Quote
Quest Posted September 6, 2004 at 01:30 AM Author Report Posted September 6, 2004 at 01:30 AM Malaysia and its surrounding areas often release new series faster than they are broadcast in HK, then some *nice* people would record all the episodes and distribute them *online*, usually through BT. skylee Posted October 3, 2004 at 02:54 AM Report Posted October 3, 2004 at 02:54 AM "金枝慾孽"好好看呀! 雖然很明顯在禁宮裡真正的男人(皇帝例外),包括御醫、侍衛,其實不能隨便行走,但只要容忍這點,戲就變得很好。(字幕就不過不失啦。) 結局圖片 (BTW, this font -> 衛 is in fact wrong. 哎呀呀 ~~~) Quote
Quest Posted October 12, 2004 at 01:32 AM Author Report Posted October 12, 2004 at 01:32 AM Look at these: Q版如妃(邓萃雯)。I think she was the best character in the drama. Quote
