zixingche Posted August 8, 2006 at 05:26 PM Report Posted August 8, 2006 at 05:26 PM Zhang Da Cheng Ren 张大成人 (grown up to be a man) I wonder has anyone else seen this film? I saw it in a Beijing cinema around 1998, it had English subtitles. If I can remember, it starts with a scene of 2 youths surviving the Tangshan earthquake. Quote
skylee Posted August 8, 2006 at 09:15 PM Report Posted August 8, 2006 at 09:15 PM It should be 長大成人 (zhang3 da4 cheng2 ren2). I haven't seen this film before. But here is some info on the film. [ Quote
zixingche Posted August 9, 2006 at 11:26 AM Author Report Posted August 9, 2006 at 11:26 AM Thanks for the link and correction! I knew it was zhang3 but forgot which hanzi and didn't bother to check. I did try to search "zhang da cheng ren" but didn't really find anything. I had thought the film was quite obscure, but I see Tian Zhuangzhuang is the executive producer and also acted in the film. Have you heard of the film before? It's a film I would definitely like to see again. Quote
gato Posted August 9, 2006 at 12:10 PM Report Posted August 9, 2006 at 12:10 PM I saw it at a Chinese film festival in NYC. I liked its rawness and the contrast it drew between the simpler days of the early 1980s and more decadent 1990s. I've also seen "Cala, my dog" by the same director 路学长, starring Ge You. It's worth watching, but not as good as "The Making of Steel" in my opinion. See http://imdb.com/name/nm0523769/ Quote
