Stroke order animations for 1600 Chinese characters

If it is to use to anybody, e.g. all you running on-line dictionaries, developing Chinese software

etc, I have (together with many others) created a zip file with stroke order data for about 1600 Chinese characters and included Java applets to use them with.

We started this when one of my former students came with a set of animations and asked if we could develop more. I am coding on a new way of creating the animations and hope to be able to create many more in the future.

To test this you can have a look at this page: http://www.freechineselearning.com/strokedata/test.html (Yes, it is a slow server i have:cry: )

The applet to the left is the old version and the one to the right is the new developed by mandarintools.

The content of the zip file is:

- strokeorderdata.txt. This is the data it self.

- Strokeplayer.jar A wonderful applet developed by Erik Peterson at www.mandarintools.com

- Chinese font player folder with two files. This is the old applet.

- test.html A test file of both applets.

The form of the strokeorderata file is:

Chinese character in Unicode value tab [data for old applet] tab [data for Eriks applet]

How to use it: Just put the applet code on an html page and save it in the same folder as the java files.

The file (2,24 Mb):

Due to all troubles we had with name napped domain etc. , we have not made any new animations for some while. Now I have started again however so I hope to have updates to this file in the future. If anyone want to help it is easy, just download our free Chinese homework and use the function in that program to create and upload your animations.

Since there have been many people uploading animations now and then some of them might be of less good quality. There are always people uploading garbage. I am trying to clear them away and fix the wrong ones. If you find any error, please let me know.

As a side project I am also developing a stroke order recognition software where I use this data. Once it is finished and work well I will share the code as well.

It is free to use this file and the applets in any non commercial situation. If you are using it, it would be nice if you let me know. Just so that i know if it is worth to spend any more time on this or not. I have so many other projects going on in Chinese so there is no need to spend time on useless projects.

Since more and more programmers uses this stroke order data, e.g. dim sum, zdt, yellow bridge, my own

CHinese homework trainer etc, i have updated the list with new stroke order data and some corrections to old ones.

The file can still be downloaded from the same place but is now smaller in size.

This is due to a newer version of winzip.

In my free Chinese learning software i have functions to check for new characters ( it is using mu open web service)

and also download the new animations.

I have my self started to create animations again. My little doughter is now older and actualy sleeps during

nights(sh) . I do finaly have some time to sit and do this and updates to my programs.

i have read the whole topic and will try to realice - but in fact i am looking also for a "normal" database which just know the "rule" like "dian, heng, shu" and so on - then it also would be possible to "write" on the fly in PHP with animated gif - then user do not need any applets or so - any idea where i can get this?

Hi,

The website does not exist anymore. Do you know what happened to this project ?
