XiaoXi Posted August 14, 2006 at 06:40 PM Report Posted August 14, 2006 at 06:40 PM Does anyone in the UK know if it's possible to study Chinese by correspondence at degree level? It's not possible for me right now to study full time at a university. Thanks in advance. Xiao Xi Quote
roddy Posted August 15, 2006 at 02:19 AM Report Posted August 15, 2006 at 02:19 AM I don't know of anything that just does language. The University of Sheffield does a Distance MSC in Chinese Language and other stuff, which would take you three years. I've looked at courses like this in the past - always found them too expensive. Open University doesn't have anything, unfortunately. If you are looking for something at the undergrad level, or that only covers language, your best bet is probably an evening course or well-planned self study - find the curriculum for a first-year undergrad course and follow it yourself as best you can. XiaoXi Posted August 15, 2006 at 07:16 AM Author Report Posted August 15, 2006 at 07:16 AM Thanks Roddy, but I was looking for undergrad level, yes. At least you found something though which is better than I did! If I do anything other than an actual degree then I won't end up with an actual degree at the end of it so I don't know about the evening course idea. Anyone else know of any way I can do a Chinese language degree by correspondence? Doesn't have to be only Chinese language but has to be mainly Chinese language. Thanks, Xiao Xi Quote
roddy Posted August 15, 2006 at 07:59 AM Report Posted August 15, 2006 at 07:59 AM I don't think anyone does full undergrad degrees by correspondence - assuming a 1:3 ration for full-time:distance learning, you'd be looking at 9 to 12 years. There's the Open University, but they don't have anything Chinese. You might want to get in touch with whatever university you eventually want to go to and ask them to recommend a course of action - they might be able to tell you how you could go the equivalent of their first year undergrad course or something.
