Jake Perry Posted March 12, 2007 at 06:36 AM Author Report Posted March 12, 2007 at 06:36 AM i want to post all the names of the pieces since the characters probably aren't that common and it will save everyone else the wear and tear on the radical index in their dictionaries. 司令 军长 师长 旅长 团长 营长 连长 排长 工长 炸燁 地雷 军旗 Quote
Ian_Lee Posted March 12, 2007 at 10:15 AM Report Posted March 12, 2007 at 10:15 AM I always played this game when I was a kid. The two players have their chess face down and only when they confront with each other, then they show whose higher in rank. The weaker chess can always hide in the barrack. Once the chess is in the barrack, the other side cannot attack it. And of course the objective of the game is to capture the other side's command base. In fact, there is another more complicated version called All-out war which involves navy, airforce as well as ground force. However, the principle is relatively simple as compared with the American wargames. Other than the simple game of "Risk", I still have hard time to figure out other more difficult war games. Quote
shibo77 Posted March 13, 2007 at 01:51 AM Report Posted March 13, 2007 at 01:51 AM It's a common game for youngsters, I think it is limited to China because the pieces are labeled in Chinese only. It is similar to Stratego. Red versus Black, at first all the pieces are flipped over and placed on the 30 available spots, throughout the game pieces are flipped over to reveal its rank and colour, chance plays a big part in this game. The pieces as mentioned are listed below: 司令 Commander (1 piece per colour) 军长 Corps (1 piece per colour) 师长 Division (2 pieces per colour) 旅长 Brigade (2 pieces per colour) 团长 Regiment (2 pieces per colour) 营长 Battalion (2 pieces per colour) 连长 Company (3 pieces per colour) 排长 Platoon (3 pieces per colour) 工兵 Engineer (3 pieces per colour) 军旗 Flag (1 piece per colour) 地雷 Landmine (3 pieces per colour) 炸弹 Grenade (2 pieces per colour) There are railways surrounding each side, 5 行营camps per side and 2 大本营headquarters per side. -Shìbó Quote
