Madot Posted August 20, 2006 at 09:06 AM Report Share Posted August 20, 2006 at 09:06 AM I was wondering if anyone knew of a decent e-map of Beijing for Palm OS. I discovered only one on the web (red something or other) and the reviews of it were pretty apalling. Can anyone help? Mado
danier11 Posted August 20, 2006 at 03:50 PM Report Share Posted August 20, 2006 at 03:50 PM Great question. I am also unable to find a good map of Beijing. I would like one that has street names of Haidian District. The best map I have found is given by BLCU at their website but it does not show the street names in detail. . Along with this question about a palm os map of Beijing, I would also like to kne a ow of any freem palm os programs that allow you to zoom in on pictures. I have a lot of pictures that I would like to put on my treo....but I can't view them because I am unable to zoom in on them. Thanks. to view BLCU's Beijing Map go to: http://www.blcu.edu.cn/english/images/bjmap.jpg danier11
onebir Posted August 21, 2006 at 02:27 AM Report Share Posted August 21, 2006 at 02:27 AM ok, it's not a palm OS map, but it's pocket sized (17x9cm) and only RMB12: 简明实用北京地图册, published by 中国地图出版社. it's only in chinese, but to use a map you really dont need to recognise too many characters (case in point: me) the wangfujing and xidan bookstores have it - current edition dark blue with a multi-coloured map of the beijing area on the front (vaguely similar shape to france), scenic pics inc the forbidden city and temple of heaven on the back. roddy Posted August 21, 2006 at 02:48 AM Report Share Posted August 21, 2006 at 02:48 AM What are you looking for? English, Chinese, pinyin? Searchable or just a big image? I've never seen anything like this, and to be honest your best bet might be either a paper map, or downloading the best image-format map you can find to your PDA and using that. venture160 Posted August 21, 2006 at 04:52 AM Report Share Posted August 21, 2006 at 04:52 AM I know there is a interactive bus software called BusLine that tells how to get from one stop to another using the Palm. It also has a map.
Ole Posted August 21, 2006 at 08:59 AM Report Share Posted August 21, 2006 at 08:59 AM I guess that the this Pocket City Guide type of thing would be alright , but it says "sorry, not yet available for Beijing" see "http://www.wcities.com/en/mobile/78/mobile.html"
Madot Posted August 22, 2006 at 01:40 AM Author Report Share Posted August 22, 2006 at 01:40 AM Well, I'm not sure what would be best. I think I need English with pinyin because the Chinese maps I've seen (paper versions) had such SMALL characters that I couldn't even see them well enough to input them into my PlecoDict to find out how to pronounce them! I noted the site about the bus routes. Are the maps complete enough to use on their own or do they only cover those areas which are on a bus route? If there is nothing else around, except the red...somethingorother. Is anyone familiar with that one? Does it work? (Sorry, I can't seem to locate the site again to get the proper name.) Any help appreciated. Thanks. Mado
