karmakid Posted August 22, 2006 at 11:28 AM Report Posted August 22, 2006 at 11:28 AM I'm currently in Thailand but I'm travelling towards hanoi and later towards beijing. But time is running out so i figured I'd look for flights from hanoi/ south of china / HK / macau or whatever really. I'm a poor student so I'm looking for cheap flights.. Does anyone know any good online airlines or travel agents. Is there a big price difference travelling from hanoi or from Hong Kong to Beijing? (rather not enter hong kong since i have a single entry visa to china) Quote
roddy Posted August 22, 2006 at 11:40 AM Report Posted August 22, 2006 at 11:40 AM Not exactly what you are looking for, and I wouldn't normally mention it as time is short, but are you aware there are direct trains Hanoi > Beijing? That would at least meet the 'cheap' requirement - the Beijing > Hanoi tickets are a little over 1000Y, I think. I just checked internal flight prices on ctrip.com - Nanning to Beijing, this time next week, costs 1440Y currently. Full price is 2050. If you can make it to Guangzhou flights to Beijing can be as cheap as 680Y. Bangkok to Beijing tickets are showing as starting at 2000Y, but I didn't spend much time trying different dates or times. Couldn't find any Hanoi to Beijing flights. Quote
skylee Posted August 22, 2006 at 11:40 AM Report Posted August 22, 2006 at 11:40 AM You don't need to use your Chinese visa to enter HK. Quote
karmakid Posted August 22, 2006 at 04:18 PM Author Report Posted August 22, 2006 at 04:18 PM skylee well no thats true. but if and when I enter China from vietnam that visa will be _used_ right ? And if I then enter HK afterwards I'd need a new visa right? 1000y train sounds pretty ok, but how long does it take to go to BJ? 2 days? Right now Guangzhou sounds like the best alternative if we have enough time. thanks for the help guys! Quote
roddy Posted August 22, 2006 at 04:47 PM Report Posted August 22, 2006 at 04:47 PM Yeah, I think it's something like two days - but if you're short of cash, you save on hotel money Your visa would be fine if you flew SEA to HK and then to Beijing. If you go overland through China into HK though, you'll use it up. Quote
Fran & Gaz Posted August 23, 2006 at 11:07 AM Report Posted August 23, 2006 at 11:07 AM Roddy, Would you be able to tell us where you found flights Guangzhou to Beijing for as low as Y680 please? We want to go ASAP return flight but we are being quoted $493 USD or Y3,900 for a return flight. Your assistance would be appreciated. We want to go tomorrow, but I heard there is a 60 % discount if you book a week in advance and I don't have much time off work. Sweet. Quote
roddy Posted August 23, 2006 at 01:59 PM Report Posted August 23, 2006 at 01:59 PM Ctrip.com, as mentioned above. Checking it now for flights tomorrow shows generally more expensive flights - starting at 1530Y early in the morning, but they get down to 680Y for the very last one. I'd say you need a new travel agent - turning up at the airport an hour before the flight is due to leave is likely to get you a better deal than 3,900Y return, and it couldn't possibly be worse (unless there's no tickets and you wind upin first class, which is very unlikely.) Fran & Gaz Posted August 23, 2006 at 02:59 PM Report Posted August 23, 2006 at 02:59 PM Thank you Roddy I was thinking of doing that, just turning up at the Airport thanks for your help:lol: Quote
