xus-swede Posted August 23, 2006 at 11:14 AM Report Posted August 23, 2006 at 11:14 AM We've talked about it but I haven't seen a thread about it so here it goes. How many of us newcomers to this enormous city is interested in some sort of a meet up? I have no idea on where and when, that's sort of something we'll have to come up with. But a time and place would be enough. First of all, how many would like to join? Quote
billiardsmike Posted August 23, 2006 at 12:05 PM Report Posted August 23, 2006 at 12:05 PM I'm in. I'd recommend the International Beer Garden. It's close, cheap, has good food and is pleasant in the early evenings. Quote
Qcash3 Posted August 23, 2006 at 04:59 PM Report Posted August 23, 2006 at 04:59 PM I'm game, but I won't be in town for another few days... Quote

Madot Posted August 24, 2006 at 05:34 AM Report Posted August 24, 2006 at 05:34 AM I'm interested too but since I'm doing the short course, I won't be there until 6 September. Registration is on the 10th and 11th if I'm not mistaken so by the evening of the 11th everyone should be relatively settled. Anyone for meeting on Tuesday evening, 11 September? Mado Quote

Madot Posted August 25, 2006 at 09:37 AM Report Posted August 25, 2006 at 09:37 AM Quite right! It's Tuesday the 12th. By then pretty much everyone should be sort of settled and enrolled. Anyone for coffee? Maybe someone who knows the area near BLCU might like to take on the job of organising things? Mado Quote
billiardsmike Posted August 25, 2006 at 12:41 PM Report Posted August 25, 2006 at 12:41 PM Tomorrow I'll check out a coffee place near campus. They're rare. I'm not sure if it's good for groups. Post back tomorrow afternoon/evening. Too bushed to go out tonight! Quote
xus-swede Posted August 25, 2006 at 04:25 PM Author Report Posted August 25, 2006 at 04:25 PM Allright. But how many of you who are reading this are already in Beijing? We can have several meetups. I'm fine with that. Quote
zeroseven Posted August 25, 2006 at 04:58 PM Report Posted August 25, 2006 at 04:58 PM Hey, I get to BCLU next week for the September intake (2 year course). I am new to Beijing, so I am up for a coffee and meeting new people. Where and when?? Quote
billiardsmike Posted August 26, 2006 at 02:19 PM Report Posted August 26, 2006 at 02:19 PM Looks like Cava Coffee (Cava Bar?) will work pretty well. From university south gate head west. Go under Wudaokou train station and go left at the light. It's 2-3 doors down on the right side. Times? Quote
doumeizhen Posted August 27, 2006 at 02:13 PM Report Posted August 27, 2006 at 02:13 PM http://www.chinese-forums.com/index.php?/topic/1161-teaching-children-to-hate-foreigners2&page=4 Since Qcash3 crossreferenced one way, I'll do it the other. Sounds like fun. I'll keep watching for you guys to decide and then sneak in on it... Quote

Madot Posted August 29, 2006 at 03:11 AM Report Posted August 29, 2006 at 03:11 AM Dear All, On a different thread, a coffee/drinks get-together for newcomers has been suggested for Friday 8 September. I'm in. Anyone else interested? Anyone know the area well enough to organise a time and place? (I do realise there are a couple of duplicate messages/threads here. Roddy, is there a way to link them?) Mado Quote
billiardsmike Posted August 29, 2006 at 03:34 AM Report Posted August 29, 2006 at 03:34 AM OK, I'll post on both threads as voluteering to organize a get-together for all of us lost souls, just arrived. Everyone mentions coffee or drinks. I'll say the best venue is the International Beer Garden. It's covered, outdoors and has beer, food and a large assortment of non-alcoholic drinks. Picnic tables make it easier for groups. From BLCU, head west, go under the train station, and turn right at the next light. It's immediately on the left. 7:00pm Friday September 8th, The International Beer Garden, Wudaokou Just look for an older guy in a Hawaiian shirt - that's me. See you there! Mike Quote
Qcash3 Posted August 29, 2006 at 04:00 AM Report Posted August 29, 2006 at 04:00 AM Sounds good, I'll definitely try to drop in. Quote
