tlr Posted August 23, 2006 at 01:29 PM Report Posted August 23, 2006 at 01:29 PM Hi, I have a painting which, thanks to Skylee, has been identified as having the name Wang Xuetao across the edge of the back of the scroll (see image). It is a beautiful work and I am trying to validate its authenticity. Do you have any idea where to begin with such a project? Is it common for the artist to write their name across the edge of the back of the scroll like this, or is this the sign of a handpainted reproduction? I will say that the quality of materials used, whether it's a reproduction or not, is very good. Are there characteristics to look for in a handpainted piece to at least filter out likely fakes? Also, the scroll is somewhat older, although Wang Xuetao only recently passed away in 1982. Thanks for your help. Quote
