Popular Post haoyu Posted May 19, 2014 at 03:40 AM Popular Post Report Posted May 19, 2014 at 03:40 AM 2014 CSC Chinese Government Scholarship Results Introduction Special thanks to Brian US, who has headed up this topic for the past few years. I am heavily borrowing from his excellent posts on this topic for this year’s results page. This thread is to post results (and related information) for the 2014 round of the CSC Chinese Government Scholarships! For information on the scholarship application process see the CSC Scholarship 2014 topic. Last year's results can be found here. What’s Different This Year: The 2014 application process appears to be a little different from previous years. For example, this year, the language student section was removed as a category from the CSC Government Scholarship Bilateral Program webpage (but retained as an option on the online laihua application). Another difference (at least in my case) was that the dispatching authority’s instructions strongly requested applicants to apply separately to universities. (Previously, this appeared to be quite optional and not specifically encouraged in the program.) In previous years, there has been little information to explain how this process works. With the changes to this year’s process, we probably know even less! I hope that some of our questions will be resolved with time, but please keep in mind that we may not be able to answer all of your questions (simply because we don’t know the how’s and why’s of the process.) Thread rules: If you know something useful, please share it! (Keep it relevant to the topic, of course!) Make sure to say where you got your information from. If you heard a rumor, don’t state it as a fact! (Anything without an official source constitutes a rumor.) Search before you post! Don’t ask “what are my chances of getting the scholarship?” (We can’t really answer this, since we don’t know!) Try contacting your dispatching authority or school as appropriate to answer questions and make sure to share the responses you receive! The best posts on this forum come from people who do their research, find out information from official sources, and share this information with the whole community. If you have questions about specific universities, make sure to check out the University Pages section. For terms and conditions (i.e. how to avoid getting moderated!), check here. Application Process Steps (copied from last year): 1. You send your application to a third party representative of CSC (maybe your school). 2. The third party (OR you can apply directly) sends application to your native country's Chinese Embassy. 3. Your native country's Chinese Embassy sends your application to the Beijing CSC office. 4. The Beijing CSC office sends your application to your selected schools. 5. If and when a school accepts you, your acceptance is sent to the Beijing CSC office. 6. The Beijing CSC office sends your acceptance to your native country's Chinese Embassy. 7. The Chinese Embassy sends your acceptance and all needed documentation to you. At any step of this process your application may be rejected. Again we don't know why, how, or when the decision is made. In the end, the school gets a final say on whether you receive the scholarship or not. When will you get your results: For most applicants, you will receive your results around June and July. I know the scholarship results are released very late for those planning to move across the world, but please be patient. For those who applied directly to a school (instead of going through their embassy), the results may be release sooner. Contact your school to find out when you will receive results. The CSC scholarship is a huge collaborative effort, and I'm glad we're in this together. Best wishes to each of you! Brian US Posted May 19, 2014 at 08:40 AM Report Posted May 19, 2014 at 08:40 AM Praise be to haoyu for taking this over! I wish everyone best of luck in this dreadful wait for results. I personally only found out around the end of July after calling the DC embassy several times. I was told that I was only one of two US applicants that had not yet received their results. Of course, I finally received my acceptance by e-mail, so thankfully I was already in Beijing as I can't imagine dropping everything with a one month notice for Fall classes. 2
